Evelyn Reynolds has been aptly described as a “mezzo-contralto”. The unusual beauty of her voice encompasses the lowest notes of the contralto with the highest notes of the mezzo-soprano voice. As a result, her repertoire ranges from the Brahms’ Alto Rhapsody to Verdi’s Requiem. Among the giants from the world of voice pedagogy who trained her was Ralph Errolle, Oren Brown, William Vennard, Lola Fletcher and Hollace E. Arment. Her coaches included Lloyd Walzer, Assistant Choral Master of the Metropolitan Opera, as well as Pierre Bernac, Paul Ulanowsky and Mac Harrell.
Dr. Reynolds performed mezzo solo roles in 25 operas, 35 major oratorios, masses and cantatas, and sang in numerous recital appearances. She has also performed in light opera and musical comedy, was soloist for churches and synagogues throughout the Chicago and New York City area, and radio and recordings. She appeared on NBC and WGN Mutual in both radio and television performances. She sang in cities throughout the United States, Austria, Sweden, Norway and Italy. Major conductors with whom she sang are George Solti, Julius Rudel, Josef Rosenstock, Thor Johnson, and Irwin Hoffman. She sang the world Premiere of works by Alan Hovhannes, Bernard Rogers, Leon Stein, Ernst Levy, Hugo Kauder, Richard Gofton and Hollace E. Arment.
